Working with Minors — WorkSitter Policy

Addition to WorkSitter Terms & Policies — applies to all StudySitter memberships

StudySitter provides academic accountability sessions to minors under the supervision and consent of a parent or legal guardian ("Parent"). Because our teammates work with minors, the following policies apply in addition to the general WorkSitter Terms & Policies. These policies are mandatory and are not subject to waiver by verbal agreement. These requirements apply to all WorkSitter teammates, not only those assigned to StudySitter sessions.

Enrollment Requirements

A Parent must complete and sign the StudySitter Parent Consent & Authorization Form before a minor's first session.

A Parent must be the account holder and billing contact. Minors may not enroll themselves or hold their own membership.

StudySitter serves students ages 8 and up. We reserve the right to request additional supervision arrangements for younger students on a case-by-case basis.

Adult Supervision Requirement

A parent or another responsible adult designated by the parent must be physically present in the room, or within clear earshot and able to see the session in progress, for the entire duration of every session.

This applies to all session types.

If the supervising adult must step away, the session should be paused. Our teammates are instructed to pause or end a session if they believe the adult has left earshot.

Camera-On Requirement

The student's camera must remain on for the full duration of every video session.

If a student's camera is turned off and not restored within a reasonable time, the teammate will pause the session and follow up with the Parent before continuing.

Communication Protocol

All communication involving a minor is copied to the Parent at all times, on every channel used (email, scheduling messages, chat, or text).

No StudySitter teammate will contact a minor directly and privately, on any platform, at any time, without the Parent included.

Teammates and minors do not exchange personal phone numbers, personal email addresses, or social media contact. All communication takes place through StudySitter-managed accounts and channels.

Full detail on this protocol is included in the Parent Consent & Authorization Form and in our internal teammate agreements.

Team Vetting

StudySitter teammates who work directly with minors are personally known to StudySitter leadership prior to being assigned to work with Students, and each teammate completes a signed Background Self-Attestation covering criminal history, prior conduct involving minors, and character references.

Where an official government-issued criminal record certificate is reasonably obtainable in a teammate's country of residence, StudySitter may request one in addition to the signed Self-Attestation.

All teammates working with minors sign an additional Working with Minors Addendum acknowledging these policies and the consequences of violating them.

Reporting Concerns

If a StudySitter teammate becomes aware of information suggesting a minor may be at risk of harm, StudySitter follows its internal Reporting Protocol, which may include contacting the Parent, escalating internally, and where appropriate and required, notifying relevant authorities.

This policy does not limit StudySitter's ability to act to protect a minor's safety, including pausing or ending a membership.

Right to Pause or Terminate

StudySitter may pause or terminate a membership at any time, without the notice period described in the general cancellation policy, if the adult-supervision, camera-on, or communication requirements are not being met.
